LED Lighting

When it comes to making the switch to LED lighting, there are a few key benefits you can expect. Perhaps the most obvious benefit is that LED lighting consumes far less energy than traditional lighting technologies. In fact, LED lights can use up to 80% less energy than incandescent lighting, and up to 50% less energy than fluorescent lighting. This reduction in energy consumption leads to decreased electricity bills and a smaller carbon footprint.

LED lights also have a longer lifespan than traditional lamps. While incandescent lamps typically last around 1,000 hours, LED lights can last for up to 60,000 hours. This means less time and money spent on replacements and repairs. Additionally, LEDs generate very little heat making them a safer option as they can reduce the risk of fire.

Businesses everywhere are making the switch to LED lighting, and for good reason. Whilst the initial cost to upgrade your lighting to LED will be an expense you could do without, it is certainly an investment that will pay for itself over time. Overall, making the switch to LED lighting is a great way for businesses of all sizes to reduce their energy consumption and running costs.

Commercial LED lighting upgrades key benefits include:

1. Reduced Energy Consumption - LED lights consume significantly less energy than traditional incandescent lamps. This can lead to significant savings on energy costs over time.

2. Longer Lifespan - LED lights have a much longer lifespan than traditional lamps. This means businesses will need to replace lights less often, saving on replacement costs.

3. Lower Maintenance Costs - LED lights also require less maintenance than traditional bulbs. This can lead to significant savings in terms of labour and replacement parts.

4. Enhanced Visual Appearance - LED lights often provide a brighter, more uniform light than traditional lighting. This can create a more pleasant and professional visual appearance for businesses.

5. Increased Productivity - Numerous studies have shown that LED lighting can increase productivity in workplaces. This is because LED lights are more focused and intense than traditional lighting, providing a better lighting in the work environment.

Emergency LED Lighting

There are a number of regulations and requirements that must be met in order to ensure the safety of occupants in buildings in England and Wales. One such regulation is the requirement for emergency lighting.

In most building types it is important to provide adequate escape lighting for:

  1. Underground or windowless accommodation

  2. Stairways.

  3. Internal corridors (Over 30m long).

  4. Open-plan areas (Over 60m2).

  5. All escape routes.

  6. Toilets (Over 8m2).

  7. Electricity and generator rooms.

  8. Switch room/battery room for emergency lighting system.

  9. Emergency control room.

  10. High risk task areas.

Emergency lighting is designed to provide illumination in the event of a power failure and the loss of artificial lighting, allowing people to safely leave a location and make a safe exit from a building. A risk assessment and evacuation strategy will identify the measures necessary to provide a safe means of escape and will highlight the locations and routes that require emergency lights and illuminated exit signs.

LED emergency lights are becoming standard due to their energy efficiency and long lifespan and there are an increasing number of solutions on the market to help facilitate the servicing, inspection and testing of emergency light fittings.
